A hummingbird found by a friend. Thank you to Maquenda / @artofmaquenda for inspiring me to honor and preserve this small life in photos.
Artists are free to use these for reference. If you make something based on/inspired by these, I’d love to see but it’s not required!
Mt. Rainier wildlife spotted on our hike. The marmots were a highlight as I’d never seen them in the wild before! We are also pretty certain the deep grunting we heard when we took a dead end trail was most likely a very nearby bear. What an incredible day out!
Gorgeous day spent hiking on Mount Rainier. The clouds rolled in just as we made our descent from Mt. Fremont Lookout.
Took a walk at the beach near our house and had the pleasure of sighting a bald eagle up close.
Some wolves out enjoying the sunshine at the Woodland Park zoo this past week. I must have been to this zoo a dozen times and never saw them out.

Recently I finally acquired a DSLR camera, a dream of many years spent lamenting point-and-click photos. It was an unexpected and financially strapping decision but with my trip to Africa in a few months time, I felt as though this was something I absolutely needed (an unbeatable sale helped make the decision as well). So now with a few months still to go before a trip of a lifetime, I am trying to learn how to make this beast sing, or rather I to understand the notes to start hearing the song. I’ve always loved photos of hummingbirds, so naturally, being a complete novice in photography decided the only thing to do was to photograph the fastest, hardest to photograph subject there is. On the plus side, I suppose I am learning a lot and fast! Here are some test shots of hummers in our backyard.
